Dr. Ezora Johnson Proctor, the wife of Pastor James
W. Proctor, was born and reared in Eunice, Louisiana.
She is the second of seven children born to Mr.
and Mrs. Willie Johnson. Her education was received
in the public schools of Eunice, where she graduated
from Charles Drew High School. She matriculated
to Grambling State University where she received
the Bachelor of Science degree, and the University
of Louisiana at Lafayette where she received the
Master of Education degree.
She later received a Doctoral degree in Education
from Liberty University. She has many achievements
to her credit, and she has made many contributions
to her community. First Lady Ezora Proctor is a
very intricate part of the ministry team at First
Church. She serves as president of the Women Department
and the Director of Christian Education. A retired
Program Manager at the Louisiana Department of Education,
she has used her expertise to write and acquire
grants for the church. Because of the grants First
Lady Proctor has written, the church continues to
extend ministries of helps to the community.
The following programs are supported through the
grant funds:
1. The Youth Connection Program for 4th –
12th grade students, that attempts to build self-esteem,
stop violence, manage anger, and avoid drug use
and substance abuse. This is a grant from the Governor’s
Office.
2. The After School Tutorial Program for all school
age children and youth where help with homework
is received from certified personnel. The students
receive extra time on task with concepts they need
to know in order to pass the LEAP exams required
for promotion from 4th grade to 5th grade and from
8th grade to 9th grade. They also receive help with
the Louisiana Graduate Exit Exam, which is required
for graduation in Louisiana. Eighty-five percent
of the children and youth serviced by this program
attain honor roll status through out the school
year, and all of the regular attendees have passed
their exams for promotion and graduation for the
seven years the program has been in existence. A
partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education.
3. The Summer Enrichment Program for elementary
and middle school students gives help to the students
to help them develop skills that will be needed
for the next school year, assist them with skill
deficiencies from the previous school year, and
give them specialized training in conflict resolution,
anger management, and violence prevention. This
is also through a grant from the Louisiana Department
of Education.
In addition to her local church involvement, First
Lady Proctor is the District Missionary of the Franklin
District; Former Dean for the Women Department of
the First Jurisdiction of Louisiana; and has served
as an instructor in the International Women Convention
for the Church of God in Christ. A mover and shaker
in the community, she serves on numerous boards,
works with many programs, and is a professional
consultant to schools throughout the state. First
Lady Proctor has had the distinct honor of serving
as the National President of the prestigious National
Association of University Women, and presently,
she wears the title of Forever Emerald with the
organization.
